1. Artists make portraits to express themselves. They send a message through visual representation that gets the viewer thinking beyond the visuals.
2. A group of people with similar interests or backgrounds coming together. 3. The Sri Lankan community and the Asian-American community. 4. Jordan's intentions behind her work were what stood out to me. I found her background not only interesting but relatable. I found it striking that she painted men only, it caught me off guard because that is not normal. I also loved the way she used color in her portraits, they were very bright and gave the art life. 5. I would describe her community as the black community and the art community. 6. The bodies, gestures and poses of her painting are very empowering to me. They are for the most part confident poses and the people in the art seem comfortable and proud. 7. I didn't have a different reaction to the nude and clothed models, I just though they were both beautiful works of art. When she talked about why she chose to paint the nude models in a certain way, I really agreed with her reasoning. Black men are extremely sexualized in some aspects and demonized in others. As for the different stories the two different types of portraits conveyed, I got a very different tone from both. The nude portraits show a vulnerable rawness while the clothed ones exude confidence and pride. I noted that overall the facial expressions were different in both styles as well. The nude models had a serious somber and kind of drained expression. The clothed models were often smiling and has more extravagant expressions.
